Course Description
Welcome to Social Studies 7! This class will focus on the peoples, places, and cultures of the Americas. Students will engage in reading assignments, writing pieces, research projects, and speaking and listening activities.

Grades
Grades are a combination of homework/class work, tests and quizzes, writing assignments, presentations and participation. Grades will be posted and updated on Infinite Campus. In this way, you will be able to keep track of your grade from week to week.
100%-93% = A 87%-89% = B+ 77%-79% = C+ 67%-69% = D+ 59%-0= F
92%-90% = A- 83%-86%= B 73-76% = C 63%-66% = D
80%-82% = B- 70%-72% = C- 60%-62% = D-
Homework
Count on having some sort of homework assignment every night. This may include:
-Reading assignments
-Writing assignments
-Studying for a test or quiz
-Project preparation
Late Work
Late work will be accepted without penalty if the assignment is accompanied by a note signed by a parent/guardian that specifically states the reason for the incomplete assignment. Late work submitted without a parent/guardian note will receive a 10% deduction per day. If students know that they will be absent they are expected to make prior arrangements with me. Students will have the amount of days that they are absent to make up the work.
Quizzes
Quizzes will be based on direct instruction, note taking, reading assignments, vocabulary, and class discussions. You will be given notice prior to a quiz.
Tests
Tests will be based on large units, such as specific chapter(s). Students will be given sufficient notice prior to a test.
Participation
Much of what we learn in Social Studies comes from class discussions and active participation in classroom activities. Your participation in class is invited and highly encouraged; it is also part of your grade!

Honesty Policy
Cheating is not tolerated. Cheating includes plagiarism. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following: copying a book word-for-word without any citation; writing vocabulary words on your hands; having a cheat sheet; and copying homework from another person (even from another class). A student’s first offence will result in a zero on the assignment, quiz, test, etc. If this should occur again, the student will be sent to an administrator.
